In 1997 the City Council presented the ADA with a certificate to mark over 100 years of service to the community.
The auditor's signature on the 1984 annual accounts shows clear signs of having been cut and pasted on to the balance sheet and then photocopied, leaving the tell-tale outlines.
This caused great controversy at the time. The story was that if the auditor was not actually dead at the time he was supposed to have signed the accounts, he was certainly close to it and in no state to review the accounts.
One fact, however, is that the same auditor signed off the 1985 annual accounts.
Close examination, and a comparison with the 1985 auditor's date and signature also suggests that the 1994 February digit 2 has in fact been changed from the digit 1.
