Meeting opened at 5:15pm

Present: S Judd (Chair), S Holt, J White, W McDougall, T Mullins, R Bright, M Bright

In Attendance: D Fleming, S Keene

Apologies: None

  1. Minutes of last meeting (AGM: 1/2/94) were accepted as a true record.
  2. Matters arising from this year's schools' competition:
    1. Senior Semi-finals - Westlake Girls' v St Cuthbert's:
      • Did not happen because of stuff-ups (S Holt)
      • Resolved: debate to be organised and held later\
      • S Judd to write letter of apology to schools concerned
    2. Advanced Semi-final - Rangitoto v Waitakere
      • tabled [Chair]: letter of complaint from Rangitoto College:
        • Complained of Jacqui White's bias in adjudication
        • Lack of organisation at Semi - chair, timekeepers, etc
      • J White explained events and tabled: a huge pile of faxes [11] from schools solicited to comment on her organisation of schools competition all saying nice things
      • S Keene bore witness, and much discussion followed
      • resolved: matters of communication may have been a problem, otherwise 'we was robbed' syndrome blamed
      • S Judd to write letter responding to allegations accordingly
    [5:48pm S Keene leaves]
  3. Athenaeum Competition:

moved [Holt] [seconded Chair]: 'that Richard be given a big hug and a pat on the back for running such a lovely Athenaeum Competition'
    carried unanimously

    1. Fees:

Suggested [R Bright] that fees be set at $33 of $36 per team for next year with a threat that those who have not yet paid for this year will not get a ranking for next year if they do not pay.

moved [Chair] [seconded Holt]: 'that the fees for Athenaeum entry next year [1995] be set at $36 per team'
      carried unanimously

    2. Selection Criteria for Regional Team:

A little discussion yeilded a vague idea of there having to be three people in the team (how unconventional) and two reserves. There was some suggestion that the team be chosen so that it would work together as a unit. [M Bright nodded at this point]

    3. Support for Regional Team:

The issue of the distribution of funds between the Schools' and General Accounts among various incomprehensible mathematical things was discussed.

moved [Chair] [seconded Holt]: 'that the ADA pay each travelling memberof the Regional Team chosen in accordance with the agreed-upon selection criteria the sum of $200 only, and that the funds for this purpose be in total [$600] taken from the General and Schools' Bank accounts in ration 1:1: one dollar taken from the Schools' Account for every dollar taken from the General Account, so that the burden on each account separately [$300] be half the total amount taken [$600]'
      carried unanimously

meeting closed at 6:20pm
