Introductory Evening

This was only prevented from being an utter disaster by the high quality of the discussion from the 10 people who attended. All debaters owe them a sincere vote of thanks.

Australian Visit

It is now certain that an Australian debating team will tour New Zealand in mid-July. They will debate against an Auckland team on either the 18th or 20th of July. Before we get too enthusiastic about the success of their last appearance in Auckland, we should remember that this year we will not have the Festival to help us and we will have to "go it alone." The question is therefore, how high should we aim?

Selection of Team

Nominations for membership of an Auckland representative team to compete against the Australians are now invited.

Debating

Thanks to the excellent work of the two subcommittees the draw for this years Athenaeum & Robinson Cup series has been completed. In order to arrange publicity whereever possible, it would be appreciated if the president could be informed of the date, time and venue of each Athenaeum debate at least 7 days before it is held.

Adjudicators

Though we will never all agree with adjudicators' decisions, we should remember that they make our debating possible. To assist new adjudicators in the Robinson Cup contests, they are urged to "sit in" on at least one of the Athenaeum Cup debates by contacting the adjudicator named for that debate and finding out from him just when and where the debate is to be held.

Novice Debates

NOW is the time for club, firms and schools to start thinking about teams for this years Novice contest.

Closing Question

Why should we wait till our year's activities have ended before we have a social evening.
