Competition Debates - 1982

Athenaeum Cup (Vice-President): Mr. R.J.C. (Dick) Forbes

Robinson Cup (Vice-President): Mr. Peter Beale

Debating in Auckland this year will be organised on a new format, which it is hoped will bring greater interest in debating, larger audiences and more efficient organisation

All debates will be held on Monday nights and the venue in the initial states will be Ponsonby Community Centre, 20 Ponsonby Tce

Start Time 8.00pm

Adjudicators will be arranged and confirmed by the Vice President in charge of the competition. Adjudicators listed with the draw are tentative and subject to confirmation and availability

Chairman to be provided by the Affirmative Team

Timekeeper to be provided by the Negative Team

Marking sheets will be provided by, and collected by ADA official on the night of the debate. Failing this they should be handed in to the competition Vice-President.

Robinson Speaking Times as above except Leader's opening speeches reduced to 12 minutes

Interjections are allowed in Athenaeum Debate, but in Robinson only if both Teams agree

Points of Order are not allowed

Defaults. If you are having difficulty in keeping your scheduled debating committments please contact the appropriate Vice-President well in advance of the debate. Under extenuating circumstances alternative arrangements can be made provided both teams agree. Teams defaulting unreasonably may be disqualified from the competition

The Judge's decision is Final in all debates. For further information and rules the book "A Guide to Debating" may be purchased at a cost of $1.00 from the Secretary.

The reorganisation of debating to this new format is a major undertaking for the ADA. We hope with your cooperation to make a success of it. Invite your friends and supporters along to watch your team, and feel free to attend any of the debates on the schedule. Your support will be welcome.

Adjudication Workshop

Later in the season it is proposed to hold an Adjudication Workshop where Senior Adjudicators will provide instruction for new adjudicators and other interested persons. - Plus answer many of your questions about judging debates and speech contests.

Notices will be sent to all clubs and associates when details are finalised. - for what promises to be an interesting and informative project.
