Competitions and Adjudicators

Adjudicators' Seminars

The ADA will be leading a seminar for those wishing to develop and improve their skills in adjudicating debates and for those who would like to start adjudicating. Senior students would also benefit, both if they will be going on to adjudicate (or for adjudicating junior students) and for the insights into how a debate is judged.

If you're available to help lead the seminar please contact me. You would be in a team of three, and payment of $150 would be made to cover your expenses. (If additional pieces of silver crossing your palm would lead to a more favourable response, please feel free to haggle.)

The seminar will be held at Kerikeri High School on the afternoon of Saturday 7th March from 1.30pm to 5pm. There is a charge of $20 per head. This sum is fully refundable if a participant registers as an adjudicator for the ADA and goes on to adjudicate at least two debates. ADA adjudicators are asked to indicate the days and times they are usually available and are asked (and may always decline) if they are willing to adjudicate debates in their region. Inexperienced adjudicators are paired with more experienced adjudicators until both the new adjudicator and the ADA are confident of "going solo". The aim is to make this a stress-free induction period. The ADA also reimburses adjudicators ($30 per debating session + a travelling allowance). But there is no obligation to register if you just want to pay the $20 for improving your adjudication skills.

Please contact Pauline Wetton at Kerikeri High School (work ph: 094078916, fax:094079323) to register.
