5th October 1981 Newsletter
The debating season is very nearly over and I do hope that everyone has enjoyed the debates whether participating as chairman, timekeeper, adjudicator or as a member of the audience. You are all essential ingredients to the success of the competitions and the Association is grateful to you all.
The finals of the various competitions are upon us and we hope that there will be a good crowd to enjoy what we guarantee will be good entertainment.
The Herald Prepared Speeches Competition
A 15 minute prepared speech of your own choice.
The Champion Memorial Trophy for Impromptu Speaking
The topic is drawn by lot 2 to 5 minutes before being asked to speak.
Both of these competitions will be held at the Down Town Building Centre from 7pm on Friday 30th October 1981. Admission $1.00
Competitors should have their nomination into the Secretary not later than 20th October together with the entrance fee of $1.00
Should it be necessary to have an elimination around the time, date and venue will be given to the competitors as soon as possible after the 20th October.
Robinson Debate - Finals
To be held at the Down Town Building Centre at 8pm on Friday 6th November 1981. Admittance $1.00
Novice Debate - Finals
The date for finals - Civic Trust Building, 29 Princes Street. Monday November 9th 7.30. Tentative
Athenaeum Cup Finals
To be held at the Maidment Theatre at 8pm on FRiday 20th November 1981. Admittance $1.00
For your interest the committee are considering next years debating programme and part of these considerations are centred around the committee organising the venue and date on either of two nights of the week, with the preference being given by the team at the time of enrolment. These will help with overall administration and adjudicators and teams will be aware of their exact committment before hand. And who knows this may also encourage an audience.
