Minutes of the 1997 Annual General Meeting of the Auckland Debating Association Incorporated.
Held at Diocesan School for Girls at 7pm on Sunday 25th April, 1997.
As no quorum was present by 7.30pm, the meeting was adjourned to the same time and place one week later.
The meeting reconvened at 7pm on Sunday 4th May 1997.
Present
A. Fish, R. Forbes, G. Logan representing Community Speakers, D. Lewis, W. McDougall, K. Perret representing Diocesan School for Girls and C. Ryan. Apologies were accepted from Howick College, St Cuthbert's College and Margaret Maylor.
Minutes of the Last Meeting
The minutes of the 1996 Annual General Meeting were taken as read and adopted as a true and correct record.
President's Report
THAT the President's report be taken as read and received.

Financial Statements
The Financial Statements for the year were presented, showing the surplus for the year to be $2,570. The Balance Sheet showed the position at 31 December 1994 to be assets $7,895 and liabilities nil.
THAT the Financial Statements for the year ended 31 December 1996 be approved and adopted.

Election of Executive Members
Following a secret ballot, W. McDougall was elected as President.
W. McDougall resumed the chair.
Following a secret ballot, A. Fish, R. Forbes and C. Ryan were elected as committee members.
General Business
THAT $250 be approved for setting up an Internet Web site and that a monthly charge of $12.50 be approved.

THAT the ADA organises a logo competition with the winning entry to receive a prize to the value of $100.

A. Fish is to contact Toastmasters clubs to encourage their involvement in the organisation of the ADA.
Constitution
THAT the existing rules be repealed and replaced by the following: (previously circulated).

Election of Patron
It was decided that this office shall remain vacant.
Election of Honorary Legal Officer
C. Rodgers was elected Honorary Legal Officer.
Appointment of Auditor
That Barbara Jordan be appointed auditor and that an honorarium of $100 be approved.

Subscriptions
THAT the affiliate membership subscription be set at $20 and the associate membership subscription be set at $10.

Closing of Meeting
There being no further business, W. McDougall thanked those present for their attendance, and declared the meeting closed at 7.43pm.
